* Each forced sex-act has the same mental impact on a girl as rape. If a girl has had 5 clients, the mental impact is the same as 5 rapes.
* Physical effects may include
- High rate of exposure to STDs (including chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, syphilis, HIV/AIDS).
- General gynaecological problems.
- High risk of infertility.
- Unwanted pregnancies.
- Injuries of repeated physical attacks.
- Broken bones as result of beatings.
- Shot or stab wounds at the hands of clients or pimps.
- Organ damage from drug and alcohol addiction.
* Emotional effects
- Stress, trauma, depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
- After leaving the life of prostitution, girls often suffer from Post-traumatic disorder i.e. severe depression, acute anxiety, insomnia, irritability, flashbacks and emotional numbness.

- Deep emotional pain and grieving
- Feelings of humiliation and dirtiness and shame
* Social effects:
- Difficulty establishing intimate relationships
- Educational deprivation

- It is impossible to have 5-6 clients a day without taking drugs to handle this kind of lifestyle.
- Alcohol and drugs such as crack cocaine are frequently used.
- Girls who leave this lifestyle require rehabilitation.
* Abortions
- Unwanted pregnancies often result in abortions in order to enable the girls to continue working.
* Rape
- Most girls endure rape at the hands of clients, pimps or other men.
* Pornography
- Prostitution and pornography go hand in hand.
- Pornography is used by pimps to accustomise the girls to this kind of lifestyle.
- Pornography is used by clients to pressurize girls to do particular sex-acts.
* Life of slavery
- The girls are imprisoned by the owners. They are closely watched. It is almost impossible to leave this life. They leave at the risk of their own lives.
- Clients pay for the services of prostitutes therefore they may demand anything from them. This is a life of slavery.
* Suicide / death
- Many girls die while working as prostitutes at the hands of pimps, clients or they commit suicide.
- A Canadian Report on Prostitution and Pornography concluded that girls and women in prostitution have a mortality rate 40 times higher than the national average. (Special Committee on Pornography and Prostitution, 1985, Pornography and Prostitution in Canada 350)

Effects on society
- Increase in crime, drug abuse, violence, rape and theft.
- An enormous amount of money is needed to rehabilitate girls as they leave the life of prostitution and drug abuse.
